Smarter, more flexible, more digital: telecom trends for 2026

Juniper Research’s Top 10 Telecoms & Connectivity Trends 2026 report explores how emerging technologies and new business models are transforming the global connectivity landscape. From AI-powered customer engagement to eSIM and MVNO convergence, early 6G development and the rise of multi-orbit satellite networks, the report points to a telecom industry that is becoming smarter, more flexible, and increasingly service-driven.

AI and automation become core to telecom

One of the most significant trends is the rapid adoption of AI agents to automate customer interactions. These agents can connect to multiple tools and data sources to complete complex tasks and are being integrated into CPaaS, CCaaS, and CRM platforms. Juniper expects customer support to be the first large-scale deployment area due to its clear return on investment, with marketing and conversational commerce emerging as higher-margin opportunities. Flexible monetisation models, including usage-based pricing, are expected to accelerate adoption.

Convergence of MVNOs and travel eSIMs

Juniper also highlights growing convergence between MVNO services and travel eSIM offerings. As MVNO revenues are typically more predictable, businesses are increasingly combining both models through Connectivity-as-a-Service platforms. By 2026, users are expected to manage domestic and global connectivity through a single eSIM installation and application, improving the customer experience while creating multiple revenue streams for providers.

MVNO expansion beyond telecoms

The MVNO market continues to expand, driven by Telecommunications-as-a-Service models that lower barriers to entry. While fintechs have led recent MVNO launches, Juniper expects the next wave to come from non-traditional sectors such as retail, sports and charities, enabling highly targeted and niche connectivity offerings.

Accelerating 6G research

Although commercial 6G deployments remain several years away, Juniper predicts accelerated research activity in 2026, particularly around terahertz spectrum. Rather than focusing solely on speed, the report emphasises efficiency, modular network design and new usage-based monetisation models as key priorities for future 6G networks.

Rise of multi-orbit satellite strategies

Finally, Juniper points to the growing importance of satellites in global connectivity. While low-Earth orbit constellations dominate today, providers are increasingly adopting multi-orbit strategies that combine different satellite layers. This approach enables more flexible, resilient and application-optimised connectivity, forming the foundation for next-generation non-terrestrial networks.

How we can help

As connectivity becomes a digital service, telecom and connectivity providers need simple, scalable ways to sell digital goods online. Checkmaxx is Alphacomm’s end-to-end e-commerce solution for digital goods such as travel eSIM, top-up, gift cards etc.

With integrated payments, built-in fraud protection and indemnified transactions, Checkmaxx enables fast launches across web, app and API channels, without operational complexity.

Are you a telecom operator or MVNO looking to turn emerging connectivity trends into real digital revenue? Let’s continue the conversation.
