Does Protectmaxx work for physical goods or only digital goods?

Protectmaxx is purpose-built for digital goods - such as top-ups, eSIMs, gift cards, game cards and e-money. Its fraud models are trained specifically on digital goods transaction patterns, where fraud risk is highest due to instant delivery and high resale value. If you sell physical goods, contact us to discuss what's possible.

What happens during the shadowing period before indemnification kicks in?

After integration of Fully Covered model, Protectmaxx runs alongside your checkout for 3–5 months in "shadow mode." During this period, transactions are analysed but not yet indemnified. This allows the system to learn your transaction patterns and for our team to calibrate the fraud model to your business before taking on full liability.

Can I upgrade from Score Only to Fully Covered later?

Yes. You can start with Score Only which gives you real-time fraud scoring from day one with no minimum commitment and upgrade to Fully Covered once you're ready for full chargeback indemnification. The transition involves a risk assessment to determine your profile.

What data do you need from my platform to get started whe Fully Covered?

To onboard, it helps to have up to 6 months of historical transaction data available. This is used during the shadowing phase to train and calibrate your fraud model. The integration itself requires connecting to our API at checkout and full documentation is provided after contract signing.

How does Protectmaxx handle false positives - legitimate orders being declined?

Our multi-layered approach, combining machine learning, rule-based algorithms and 24/7 human analyst oversight, is specifically designed to minimise false declines. The goal is to approve as many legitimate transactions as possible while blocking fraud, achieving up to 99% acceptance rates depending on product type.

Is there a minimum transaction volume to qualify for Fully Covered?

This isn't stated on the page and is determined during the Risk Assessment phase of onboarding, where your business is profiled as low, medium or high risk. Contact us to find out if your current volumes qualify.

What do I do if Protectmaxx flags a transaction as fraudulent under the Score Only plan? Do I have to decline it myself?

Yes, under Score Only you receive a fraud score and recommendation per transaction but the final call is yours. You decide whether to proceed, decline or apply additional verification. This gives you full control while still benefiting from our real-time AI/ML fraud intelligence.

Does Protectmaxx replace 3DS2 or work alongside it?

Protectmaxx works alongside 3DS2 rather than replacing it. By intelligently assessing risk per transaction, it selectively applies 3DS checks only where needed, avoiding unnecessary friction on low-risk orders while keeping high-risk ones secure. This keeps conversion rates high while staying SCA-compliant.
